Yet, high-street law practitioners have not gone out of fashion as was forecasted when the DIY divorce boom started on the internet. But why is it so? Why are people willing to pay up their hard earned money to make their lives more complicated and take on more tensions? Or is it not quite like that? It is a fact that high-street solicitors render a kind of service that cannot be replaced, and this is what has been discussed below.

Why Are They Important Despite the Charges?

Yes, high-street solicitors will charge you a pretty penny. But then, you need to look at why this is done to understand the logistics of it. Here are a few reasons:

• Their clients are often well moneyed people. So paying a lawyer a few thousand pounds to ensure that a life time’s fortune worth millions of pounds remains intact does make sense. The celebrities or tycoons have several complicated issues involved with their property and assets. There may be tax implications involved as well. These are taken care of by the solicitors as well.



• There are often several issues that need solution. They may relate to finance, children, property, assets, investments, wills, and a whole collection of woes. Couples in such positions cannot possibly run around from subsidised counsellor to counsellor, or buy package after package of DIY and still have a few loose ends left hanging. So they would need to go to a really large high-street establishment which will then be like a one-stop divorce shop for their legal needs.



• Child custody is another complicated area where legal help may be needed. This has been discussed in more detail below.



• People who are too busy just cannot make time to conduct an elaborate divorce themselves. Once they have hired the lawyers, they can continue with work again, while the process is taken care of by the firm.

• Their main role is to offer quality service from experienced and trained staff in as comprehensive and customised a manner as possible.

• They will conduct the entire divorce proceedings end to end including all forms, court processes, criminal proceedings, if any, ensuring it all goes in time.



• They can provide you with processing new wills, settling property matters, dividing finances etc.



• Some firms offer allied financial, emotional and asset management counselling too.

• Is the firm licensed, authorised and with a good market reputation?



• Do they have a track record of success in this field?



• Do they specialise in family law and have good contacts?



• Are they prompt with the service?



• Are their rates competitive enough?
